AI-Augmented Research Policy
Human-Centered, AI-Assisted Research Excellence
SOLAV Journal recognizes artificial intelligence as a transformative tool in research. We support responsible AI use that enhances human capability while maintaining research integrity.
This policy outlines acceptable AI applications, disclosure requirements, and our commitment to human-centered research where AI serves as an assistant, not a replacement for human intellect.
All research published in SOLAV must be fundamentally human-generated and human-validated, with AI used as an augmentation tool under strict oversight.
Human-Centric Foundation
- Research must originate from human intellect
- AI cannot be listed as an author or contributor
- Final responsibility rests with human authors
- All AI outputs require human verification
Transparency Mandatory
- Full disclosure of AI tools used
- Specific purposes of AI assistance
- Extent of AI contribution documented
- Transparency in methods section
Accountability Unchanged
- Authors accountable for all content
- AI errors are human responsibility
- Verification of AI-generated content required
- Ethical standards apply equally
Augmentation, Not Replacement
AI serves to enhance human capabilities in research processes. It cannot replace human critical thinking, intellectual contribution, or ethical decision-making in the research lifecycle.
Core Principle
AI is a powerful assistant for researchers, but research must remain fundamentally human. We embrace AI as a tool for advancement while safeguarding the human intellect at the heart of academic discovery.
Acceptable AI Use in Research
AI tools are permitted for specific research support functions with appropriate disclosure.
Literature Enhancement
AI-assisted literature review, identifying relevant studies, summarizing existing research, or suggesting related references.
Data Analysis Support
AI tools for statistical analysis, data visualization, pattern recognition, or processing large datasets.
Code Development
AI assistance in writing, debugging, or optimizing research code, with human verification of all outputs.
Language Support
Grammar checking, style enhancement, translation assistance, or readability improvement.
Idea Development
Brainstorming assistance, hypothesis generation, or exploring alternative methodologies.
Visual Creation
AI-assisted creation of diagrams, figures, or visual representations of concepts.
Disclosure Requirements
Complete transparency is mandatory for any AI use in research submitted to SOLAV Journal.
Required Disclosure Elements
- AI Tools Used: Specify names/versions of all AI tools
- Purpose of Use: Detailed description of how AI was applied
- Extent of Contribution: Percentage/scope of AI assistance
- Verification Process: How AI outputs were validated
- Methodology Section: Include AI use in methods
- Separate Statement: AI disclosure statement
Disclosure Format Example
In Methods Section:
AI Assistance: This study utilized ChatGPT-4 for literature review assistance and Grammarly for language polishing. All AI-generated content was thoroughly reviewed and validated by the authors.
In Separate Statement:
AI Disclosure: The authors used DeepSeek for statistical analysis suggestions and DALL-E for figure generation. Human authors verified all outputs and maintain full responsibility for the research.
Non-Disclosure Consequences
Failure to properly disclose AI use constitutes research misconduct. Manuscripts with undisclosed AI assistance will be rejected. Post-publication discovery may lead to retraction.
Unacceptable AI Use
- Full Manuscript Generation: AI cannot write entire manuscripts or substantial sections without human intellectual input
- Data Fabrication: AI cannot generate or fabricate research data, results, or findings
- Authorship Attribution: AI tools cannot be listed as authors, co-authors, or contributors
- Peer Review Bypass: AI cannot be used to generate or fake peer review responses
- Original Idea Generation: Research cannot be primarily AI-conceived without human intellectual foundation
- Undisclosed Use: Any AI assistance used without full transparent disclosure
- Ethical Review Replacement: AI cannot replace human ethical oversight and approval processes
- Content Verification: All AI-generated content must be thoroughly verified for accuracy, appropriateness, and originality
- Source Validation: Verify all AI-suggested references and citations actually exist and are correctly attributed
- Bias Checking: Actively identify and correct any biases introduced by AI tools
- Methodological Soundness: Ensure AI-assisted methods are scientifically valid and reproducible
- Intellectual Contribution: Maintain clear documentation of human vs. AI contributions
- Error Responsibility: Authors bear full responsibility for any errors in AI-generated content
- Ethical Compliance: Ensure AI use complies with all ethical standards and regulations
- Pre-Submission Check: Authors must complete AI use declaration during submission
- Editorial Review: Editors will verify AI disclosure completeness and appropriateness
- Peer Review Consideration: Reviewers may be informed of AI use extent for proper evaluation
- Post-Publication Monitoring: Ongoing checks for undisclosed AI use in published works
- Violation Response: Manuscripts violating this policy will be rejected; published articles may be retracted
- Appeal Process: Authors may appeal decisions through [email protected]
- Policy Updates: This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as AI technology evolves
AI Policy Implementation
For Authors
- Complete AI disclosure form during submission
- Include AI statement in manuscript
- Document verification of AI outputs
- Maintain records of AI-human collaboration
- Ensure human intellectual leadership
- Verify all references and data sources
For Editors & Reviewers
- Verify AI disclosure completeness
- Assess appropriateness of AI use
- Evaluate human oversight quality
- Check for undisclosed AI patterns
- Maintain focus on research quality
- Report suspected policy violations
Best Practices Recommendation
We recommend researchers document their AI use process: what prompts were used, how outputs were verified, what human modifications were made, and how AI contributed to the final work. This documentation, while not required for submission, demonstrates rigorous research practice.
